How does moving crate rental work?

We deliver clean, stacked crates and dollies to your door before your move. You pack at your own pace — no assembly, no tape — then move and unpack. When you're done, we pick everything up. There's nothing to flatten, store, or recycle.

Do I pack the crates myself?

Yes. You pack and unpack on your own schedule within the rental period. Doing the packing yourself is exactly what keeps crate rental affordable compared to full-service movers.

Do you deliver and pick up the crates?

Yes — delivery and pickup are part of every rental. We bring the crates stacked and ready; we collect the empties when you're finished. Delivery + pickup is a flat $25 (Near, 0–20 mi), $50 (Mid, 21–40 mi), or $75 (Far, 41–60 mi) based on whichever of your two move addresses is farther from our Leavenworth, KS warehouse. We're local-only — both addresses must be inside the 60-mile service area.

Do the crates come with dollies?

Yes. Every rental package includes dollies — 1 for studios, 2 for 1- and 2-bedroom packages, 3 for 3-bedroom, 4 for 4-bedroom, and 5 for 5+ bedroom. You can stack crates on dollies four high and roll an entire stack from the door to the truck.

Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?

Typically someone 18 or older should be present to receive and sign for the delivery. If that's not possible, contact us in advance — we can often arrange a safe drop-off if there's a secure spot like a garage or covered porch.

How do I return the crates?

You don't haul them anywhere. We come to you and pick them up at the end of your rental window. Just have them emptied and stacked.

How many moving crates do I need?

As a rough guide: a studio or one-bedroom needs about 20–30 crates, a two-bedroom 45, a three-bedroom 65, a four-bedroom 85, and a five-plus-bedroom home 100 or more. Kitchens and garages drive the number up. Tell us your home size and we'll recommend an exact package.

How many crates do I need for a 2-bedroom apartment?

Most 2-bedroom apartments need about 45 crates. That's our standard 2-bedroom package — 45 crates and 2 dollies for $159 (1 week) or $199 (2 weeks). Heavy kitchens or book collections may push the count up; we can deliver extras at $4 each.

What size are the crates? How much do they hold?

Each crate is approximately 27 × 17 × 13 inches (about 2.5 cubic feet) — roughly the size of a large cardboard moving box. Rated for 70–80 pounds of contents. Uniform sizing makes loading the truck and organizing the new place far easier than mismatched cardboard.

What can't I pack in the crates?

Crates are great for books, kitchenware, files, electronics, clothing, and most household goods. Pack oversized art, mattresses, hanging clothes, large TVs, and lamps separately with their own boxes. Don't pack liquids loose (seal them in a bag first), hazmat, propane, paint, or ammunition — these need different transport entirely.

Are the crates clean and sanitized?

Yes. Every crate is cleaned and sanitized between rentals using eco-friendly cleaners and CDC-recommended surface protocols. Unlike used cardboard, they don't carry dust, pests, or moisture from a previous move.

Are plastic moving crates sturdy? Will they protect my things?

Yes. Our crates have rigid walls that don't buckle, tear, or collapse when stacked four high, and secure latching lids that keep out dust and moisture. For dishes, electronics, books, and files, that's meaningfully more protection than cardboard.

Can you stack the crates?

Yes — they're designed to stack securely four high on a dolly and hold their shape, which is what makes loading the truck efficient and safe.

Do the crates have lids?

Yes, attached latching lids — sealed with a reusable zip tie. No tape required, nothing to lose, and the seal provides chain of custody for sensitive items.

What if a crate gets damaged or lost?

Normal wear is on us. Damaged or unrecoverable crates are $35 each. Lost dollies are $75. We publish the full damage policy — no surprise fees at pickup.

How much does it cost to rent moving crates in Kansas City?

Pricing is based on the number of crates and the rental length. Studio package: $89/week. 1 Bedroom: $129. 2 Bedroom: $159. 3 Bedroom: $189. 4 Bedroom: $249. 5+ Bedroom: $299. All include dollies, zip ties, labels. Delivery + pickup is a flat $25 (Near, 0–20 mi from our Leavenworth warehouse), $50 (Mid, 21–40 mi), or $75 (Far, 41–60 mi). The fee follows whichever of your two move addresses is farther.

Is renting crates cheaper than buying cardboard boxes?

For most full-home and office moves, yes — once you add up new boxes, tape, labels, packing time, and disposal, rental is comparable or cheaper, with far less effort on both ends. Buying boxes runs $195–$240 for a typical 2-bedroom move; our 2-bedroom package is $199 with no setup or breakdown labor.

How long can I keep the crates?

Standard rental is one or two weeks. Need longer for a staged or phased local move? Just tell us up front and we'll set the right window — extension weeks run $30–$90 per package per week. (We're a local Kansas City service — crates must return to our Leavenworth warehouse and don't leave the metro.)

Can I extend my rental?

Yes. Just call before your return date. Extension weeks are inexpensive and there's no re-delivery fee.

What's your cancellation and refund policy?

Cancel 48+ hours before your delivery date and you get a full refund on the package fee, no questions. Cancellations inside 48 hours of delivery get a 50% refund — by that point we've already pulled your crates from available inventory for your dates. (We don't sell crates and don't accept returns the way retail does — once your rental window starts, the package fee is non-refundable. You can still reschedule your delivery date for free as long as you give us reasonable notice.)

What if I need more crates partway through?

Reach out and we can typically add crates quickly. Extra crates are $4 each delivered.

How soon can I get crates? Do you offer same-day delivery?

Same-day delivery is available across Near and Mid zone addresses for orders placed before 11 AM. Far-zone addresses (Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs) are typically next-day. Same-day is standard in Leavenworth — that's our home base. For peak season (June through early August), book 1–2 weeks ahead for tight dates.

What areas do you serve?

We're local-only: we serve the greater Kansas City metro within a 60-mile driving radius of our Leavenworth, KS warehouse, on both sides of the state line. That includes Kansas City MO and KS, Overland Park, Olathe, Lee's Summit, Independence, Shawnee, Lenexa, Leawood, Blue Springs, Liberty, Parkville, Lawrence, and Leavenworth. BOTH your pack-up and your move-in addresses must be inside the 60-mile area. Not sure if you're in range? Ask and we'll confirm your two addresses quickly.

Do you cross the state line for a single move?

Yes. KC straddles Missouri and Kansas, so plenty of our customers move from one side to the other. We deliver crates on either side of State Line Road and pick them up on the other — same rental period, same flat $25 / $50 / $75 delivery fee (no cross-state surcharge). Both addresses just need to be inside our 60-mile service area.

Do you serve businesses and offices?

Yes — office and commercial moves are a great fit. Lidded, stackable, dolly-friendly crates let staff pack their own desks, color-code by department, and move with minimal downtime and no debris. We offer small office, medium office, and custom large packages with net-15/net-30 billing.

Can I rent during a Kansas City winter storm?

Yes — and crates handle ice and snow far better than cardboard. If your move is delayed by weather, we extend the rental at no charge. Call us as soon as forecasts shift and we'll keep your slot.

Is there a deposit required?

No separate deposit. You pay the rental cost at booking; we keep a card on file in case of damaged or missing items per our published policy.

Do you take cash, check, or just card?

Credit and debit cards through our online checkout. For commercial accounts, we can invoice net-15 or net-30 with approved credit.
