Moving Companies: Bundle Crate Rental for Your KC Customers

Published May 17, 2026 · 8 min read

If you run a Kansas City moving company, offering crate rental as a bundled add-on lets you increase per-job revenue, differentiate from cardboard-only competitors, and reduce mid-move box-failure issues. Here's how a wholesale partnership with KC Moving Crates works.

Most Kansas City moving companies handle the truck, the labor, and the load — but leave the box decision to the customer. The customer drives to Home Depot, buys cardboard, struggles with assembly, and your crew shows up to a half-packed living room of fragile boxes that will fail in the truck.

There’s a better model: bundle reusable plastic crate rental into your move quote at a wholesale rate, charge the customer your retail price, and keep the difference. Your customers get pro-grade containers delivered before pack day; your crew loads faster and avoids mid-move spills; you pocket the markup as new high-margin revenue with no operational overhead.

This post explains how a wholesale partnership with KC Moving Crates works, what we can offer, and the numbers behind it. If you’re a KC-area moving company owner or dispatcher, this is a 5-minute read worth your time.

The wholesale model — how it works

The simple version:

  1. You quote the customer their full moving package, including crate rental as a line item at your retail price.
  2. You book the crate rental with us at the wholesale rate (typically 25-30% off our published retail).
  3. We deliver crates to your customer 1-2 days before pack day, branded if you want (your sticker on the crates, your logo on the delivery sheet, your phone number on the pickup-tag).
  4. Your crew packs + moves the loaded crates on the move day.
  5. We pick up empties after the customer unpacks — typically 5-7 days post-move.
  6. You bill the customer once for the full package. We bill you monthly for the wholesale crate volume.

Net effect: you add $50-$200 per move in margin on the crate-rental line without touching the operational side. We handle delivery, pickup, sanitization, inventory, and the cancellation policy. You handle the move you were already doing.

The math for a typical KC moving company

Assume a moving company doing 4-8 jobs per week with an average 2 BR or 3 BR package:

  • Retail price you charge customer: $159 (2 BR) or $189 (3 BR) per week
  • Wholesale rate you pay us: ~$120 (2 BR) or ~$140 (3 BR) — depending on volume tier
  • Your margin per move: $40-50 per move
  • Monthly margin at 20 moves/month: $800-$1,000 of new high-margin revenue
  • Monthly margin at 40 moves/month: $1,600-$2,000

The numbers scale with volume. At 4+ jobs per month, the wholesale partnership becomes meaningfully accretive. At 20+ jobs per month, it’s a real new revenue line.

(These are illustrative numbers; the actual wholesale rate scales with monthly volume. Get a quote for your specific job mix at the end of this post.)

Why bundle crates instead of recommending cardboard

A few honest reasons KC moving companies are moving away from “tell the customer to buy boxes”:

1. Cardboard box failure is a real liability. When a customer-packed cardboard box bottoms out on your crew’s loading day, the conversation about who’s responsible is awkward. Crates with rigid walls don’t bottom out.

2. Move-day prep is faster. A customer who’s been packing into pre-delivered crates for 3 days is ready when your crew arrives. A customer mid-assembly with cardboard isn’t.

3. Customers like the upgrade. “Here’s your moving estimate; we include the crate rental” reads better than “and you’ll need to source boxes separately.”

4. Truck loading is more efficient. Uniform crate dimensions stack tighter. Your trucks load faster + come back for fewer return trips.

5. The eco angle sells. Especially in Brookside, the Plaza, Mission Hills, Prairie Village, and the Crossroads. Customers feel better about a moving package that doesn’t generate a 30-box recycling pile.

What’s included in the wholesale program

For partner moving companies, we provide:

  • Wholesale pricing scaled to monthly volume (see brackets at end of post)
  • Co-branded crates / dollies with your sticker — optional
  • COIs naming the building as additional insured — important for downtown KCMO + Plaza high-rises
  • Coordinated delivery + pickup windows — we work around your move dates
  • Same-day delivery for tight bookings (before 11 AM, Metro zone)
  • Dedicated phone / email line for partner bookings (faster than retail)
  • Monthly billing — net-15 or net-30 terms based on partnership tier
  • Inventory priority during peak season (June-August) — partners get crates when retail customers might wait

What’s not included (be honest)

We’re not your delivery crew on move day — we deliver crates to your customer’s old house and pick them up from the new house. Between those two events, the crates are on your truck (or in your customer’s hands).

We also don’t insure your customer’s contents — that’s still on the customer or on your existing moving-company coverage. Our insurance covers the crates and dollies themselves.

And we can’t accommodate every job — if a single move requires 200+ crates (large estate move, commercial relocation), we’ll work with you to schedule the inventory but might need to coordinate around our retail booking calendar.

Who this fits

Our wholesale program is built for KC moving companies doing 4+ jobs per month with a typical job mix of 1 BR to 4 BR residential moves. We have flexibility on both ends — smaller boutique movers and larger commercial-focused operators have both worked well as partners.

We’re a particularly clean fit if your moving company:

  • Operates primarily in the KC metro (our 7-county service area)
  • Has commercial-grade customer expectations (Plaza, Brookside, Leawood, SE Overland Park, Prairie Village)
  • Does both residential and small-office commercial moves
  • Already has insurance + COI infrastructure
  • Wants to add a recurring high-margin product without operational complexity

Wholesale pricing tiers (request actual rate sheet)

Tier structure (volume measured monthly):

  • Bronze: 4-10 moves/month — 20% off retail
  • Silver: 11-20 moves/month — 25% off retail
  • Gold: 21-40 moves/month — 30% off retail
  • Platinum: 40+ moves/month — custom pricing + dedicated account management

Tier qualification re-evaluates quarterly. The wholesale rate locks for a 12-month commitment.

(Tier structure is indicative — actual rates may differ. Request the current rate sheet at the contact form below.)

How to get started

If your KC moving company is interested in the wholesale partnership program:

  1. Reply via the contact form with your company name + average monthly move volume + your typical job mix (residential / commercial split, average BR size)
  2. We’ll send the current wholesale rate sheet + program details within 1 business day
  3. Pilot: start with 2-4 jobs at the Bronze rate; we evaluate fit after the first month
  4. Quarterly re-tiering based on actual volume

No long-term commitment for the pilot phase. If it doesn’t work for your operation, no hard feelings — we’d rather find out fast than drag out a bad fit.

For wholesale partnership questions, reach out via the contact form and we’ll respond same business day.
